Stiffness matrix method for modelling wave propagation in arbitrary multilayers

Natural and engineered media usually involve combinations of solid, fluid porous layers, accurate stable modelling wave propagation in such complex multilayered is fundamental to evaluating their properties with wave-based methods. Here we present a general stiffness matrix method for waves arbitrary multilayers. The first formulates matrices individual layers based on the governing equations fluids solids, Biot theory materials. Then it utilises boundary conditions considered at layer interfaces assemble into global system equations, obtain solutions reflection transmission coefficients any incidence. Its advantage over existing methods manifested by its unconditional computational stability, validity proved experimental validations single solid sheets, porous-solid-porous battery electrodes.
